ABOUT CITC

The mission of the Council for the Indigenous and Tejano Community is to preserve the history, traditions and rich culture of the Indigenous and Tejano community of Hays County. We accomplish this through sponsoring historical markers, conducting oral  histories, art and culture and the CITC will work closely with the distinguish Indigenous Cultures Institute.

Stories of our people, by our people. Explore firsthand accounts and personal narratives that preserve the rich history and heritage of Indigenous and Tejano Texans.

This modest exhibit presents some of the rich Indigenous and Mexican history that has not been a part of the historical narrative in this space until now. Many of you will rediscover a lost language, a long-ago hidden identity, and faces of those who have lived in Hays County long before it was Hays County, the state of Texas, or the United States.

Explore our Gallery—community-shared photos showcasing Hays County's Indigenous and Tejano heritage.
